Fun Times in February

What We’re Learning!

Students continue to focus on various strategies and skills as they read independently or listen to a read aloud during our Reader's Workshop.  We choose books in class to read independently and as a class we are starting to read Because of Winn-Dixie .Students are learning new vocabulary words, improving comprehension and working on fluency.

Our writing will now focus on our opinions.  During Writer's Workshop students will be eager to persuade others.  Third graders will be able to channel their opinions into writing that can make a difference.  The students will realize that their voices have power and that well-supported opinions can and do change the world.

In Math, students are learning Geometry.  We are investigating line segments, rays and lines.  Exploring polygons, including triangles and quadrangles and drawing/measuring angles are also included in our Geometry studies.

Do you know the history of Bordentown?  Your children will become Bordentown experts.  In our Social Studies unit on Bordentown, we are learning  about various historical landmarks and people.  We will study the figures such as Thomas Farnsworth, Clara Barton and Joseph Borden.  Just ask your third grade student!

February is going to be another fun and eventful month!
