May Family Focus

Reader's Workshop - Our readers will soon begin a novel study of Charlotte's Web. We will enjoy this book as a read aloud as well as completing cohesive, integrated activities that will support our readers in applying many of the literary processes and skills we have acquired this year.

Writer's Workshop - Students will complete their poetry anthologies as a demonstration of learning. This completed anthology will come home towards the end of the month. We will be working on a special activity during Writer's Workshop that will come home on May 10 - be on the look-out for this special treat! Our young authors will also begin their next unit of study, Realistic Fiction, after the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment. This unit of study will carry us through the majority of our remaining days together as a class.

Math - Mathematicians will complete their Unit 6 Cumulative Assessment the week of May 6 and begin Unit 7 after the NJSLA. Unit 7 explores fractions and also engages students in exploring liquid volume, arrays, and equal shares. Continue to review multiplication facts. Assessments and re-tests will be on-going.
