September Curriculum Update

Please check our Google Classroom Page for assignments and links.

This month we are learning about the rules and routines of the classroom. We are also establishing a classroom community of respect and getting to know each other.

Reading- We are building our reading life in Mrs. McCall's class. We are learning strategies to help us become better readers and building our stamina! Our first unit focuses on learning about characters in the realistic fiction genre. We are using the class text, Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillio to teach us about literary elements and character analysis. We are jotting our ideas about what we read in our reader's notebook.

Writing-  The budding authors of 202 are hard at work building their writer's notebooks. This resource will house all our wonderful seed ideas that will grow into great stories! In our first unit, we will write realistic fiction stories. We are learning about the writing process of brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing. We have learned the writing motto of how we are really never done with writing, but we have just begun!

Math- Chapter 1 focuses on place value, estimation, addition, subtraction, and problem solving. We are also learning math routines and games to help us learn.

Social Studies- This month we are learning about the Regions of the United States and Geography terms and skills.
