Reader's Workshop - We are beginning our biography unit. The readers will be exploring the elements of a biography, examine biography mentor texts, read and respond to this type of literature.

Writer's Workshop - Writers are working on Literary Essays, formal responses to literature. In our workshop mini-lessons, the children have been reading different texts, learning to annotate ("mark-up") what they read, and complete graphic organizers to analyze their reading to foster deeper understanding and appreciation of these selections. The writers then use the text evidence they have gathered to write a strong response supporting a claim or idea they have about what they read.

Math - Students are exploring fractions and multiplication strategies. Students will soon be assessed on the 5 and 10 times tables. Please continue to review these. Children should also be working on the _______ times tables. Please visit the songs to support learning multiplication in the Learning Links section of my website.

Science - Students are using magnets to explore forces and magnetism. Students work in lab groups and, following mini-lessons which present either an anchor or puzzling phenomenon, explore the new concept through hands-on investigation. Our scientists then keep notes on their observations in their science notebooks.
