Areas of Study:
 
Reading: Children will participate in the reading of novels such as Freckle Juice, The Chocolate Touch, Because of Winn Dixie, and Wonder. The young readers will also have the on-going opportunity to read chapter books of various genres at their independent reading level and to share their reading in small groups and with their partners.
 
Writing: Children's enthusiasm for writing will be fostered through the opportunity to work on different styles of writing. These styles include personal narratives, persuasive essays, and informational reports. These young authors will also author fictional stories, fairy tales, and poetry throughout the year.
 
Math: Children will explore multiplication, division, fractions, measurement, area, perimeter, geometry, and multistep word problems. Children will incorporate various mathematical tools and technology as well as develop critical thinking skills to solve problems.
 
Social Studies: Children will learn about the three branches of government (Executive, Legislative, Judicial), explore geography, map skills and reading maps. Children will become Bordentown Experts by learning about famous people and places in Bordentown history.
 
Science: Children will participate in hands-on activities to engage with the content. Units of study include Water and Climate, Motion and Matter, and Life Systems - Plants and Animals.
