Welcome to Music!
My name is Jocelynn Mattingly and I will be your Music and Choir Teacher at MIS! I am thrilled about the fun musical year ahead and have lots of exciting things in store for distance learning. Get ready to move, bang, and sing!
"Music enhances the education of our children by helping them to make connections and broadening the depth with which they think and feel. If we are to hope for a society of culturally literate people, music must be a vital part of our children's education."
Music Education is my greatest passion in life. Introducing young children to the wonders of music inspires me daily to be a creative, thoughtful, and reflective educator. I strongly believe that a fun, interactive, community based music program is essential to the growth and well-being of young minds. I love music education because music is science. Music is math. Music is language. Music is language arts. Music is history. Music is physical education. Music is art. Music is an emotional outlet. Music is multicultural. Music making is community. Parents, faculty, students, and community members, please join me in creating a one of a kind music experience for the talented students at MacFarland Intermediate School. I cannot wait to work with you all!
About Ms. Mattingly
I graduated from Montclair State University with a degree in Music Education and concentration in Voice. I joke that I have been singing since birth, because I seriously cannot remember a time where I was not singing! I have consistently sung in choirs since Elementary School and have performed in hundreds of concerts with my choirs and solo. I have performed in venues such as The White House, Carnegie Hall, Princeton University, and St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, Austria. In addition to singing, I enjoy playing the guitar, ukulele, and piano. I go to as many concerts as I can and have seen so many amazing artists live including Pentatonix, Ariana Grande, Twenty One Pilots, Khalid, and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. My next concert will be Harry Styles!
Outside of music, my favorite things to do are travel, bake, do arts and crafts, watch tv shows, kickbox, hangout with friends, and play with my three dogs. My favorite color is pink! Fun Fact: I have chickens in my backyard and make fresh eggs every morning.
This year, all assignments and videos will be posted in Google Classroom. Listed below are the links and codes to access Music Class for grades 3-5.
